Variations on a Theme
Frozen's Let it GoThe snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen A kingdom of isolation, And it looks like I'm the queen. The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I tried! Don't let them in, don't let them see Be the good girl you always have to be Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know Well, now they know! Let it go, let it go Can't hold it back anymore Let it go, let it go Turn away and slam the door! I don't care What they're going to say Let the storm rage on, The cold never bothered me anyway! It's funny how some distance Makes everything seem small And the fears that once controlled me Can't get to me at all! It's time to see what I can do To test the limits and break through No right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free! Let it go, let it go I am one with the wind and sky Let it go, let it go You'll never see me cry! Here I stand And here I'll stay Let the storm rage on! My power flurries through the air into the ground My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast I'm never going back, The past is in the past! Let it go, let it go And I'll rise like the break of dawn Let it go, let it go That perfect girl is gone! Here I stand In the light of day Let the storm rage on, The cold never bothered me anyway! |
Kayla's Nothing NewWe used to think it was
only from God. Not made for you and me. A special inspiration, For da Vinci in a dream. How can we study what this magic thing is like? Couldn’t pass it on, couldn’t teach a tyke. Don’t buy that junk, don’t let it stand No one comes with a creative gland Look kids don’t fear, you all should know There’s room to grow! Nothing new, nothing new! What are we supposed to do? Nothing new, nothing new Mix it up, get a new hue Twist a knob, but pick the right one. Don’t just change color With value and style it can be done! It’s funny how microbe art Made penicillin real A new discipline plus science Made this dish a big deal! It’s time to see what we can do To prep you kids to do that, too From art to math, no lines between You’re free! Nothing new, nothing new! We can see what we should do Nothing new, nothing new Mix it up, make a new hue Old plus old In a new way Creativity! What you need is varied knowledge of different things And the skill to pick the right thing for what the world brings And one thought crystallizes when you notice it A new connection formed A match, a perfect fit! Nothing new, nothing new! Do you see what you should do? Nothing new, nothing new Mix it up, make a new hue Old plus old In a novel way Creativity, You can be prepared to make it pay! |
From the reading, I learned that creativity can be fostered through interdisciplinary learning. The article mentioned a “trans-disciplinary way of thinking,” which involves “the making of deeply pesonal connections across knowledge domains” (Henricksen, Mishra, p 18). This expanded my concept of interdisciplinary learning because I had always thought the its purpose was to build knowledge within those subjects. For example, I thought it was important to teach about drawing geometric shapes in art class in order to improve geometry skills. After this article, I realized there are additional reasons for wanting students to think across disciplines, specifically that it enables them to be creative, drawing on knowledge and skills from one discipline to apply to problems arising in a different one.
Also, before I did this assignment I thought it would be easier than it actually was because of my background playing the violin. However, I ended up running into issues matching up the flow and syllable counts between the two songs and had to make a lot of revisions. This extended process is important to keep in mind when I plan creative lessons because I need to remember it will take both time and revision to be truly creative.
